faire belle is part of Cosgrove’s award winning supported employment project.
At faire belle, Cosgrove’s students will be taught all the skills involved in up-cycling furniture and home accessories to give some once loved items a second lease of life.
Through faire belle, Cosgrove aims to provide the young people they support with the opportunity to access work related training, learn new skills, gain nationally recognized qualifications, employment secured through their job coach, the experience of being part of a team and of being in a situation where natural friendships can grow and self-esteem can be boosted.
Specially-invited guest Ethan, a faire belle student, has been involved with the new project from the start, working on renovating furniture and decorating the new shop and workshop. He said: "I did some sanding, varnishing and painting. I liked all of the work so I didn't have a favourite."
Ethan’s mum, Bev said: “Ethan looks forward to going to faire belle every week and has a real sense of achievement after working with the furniture.”
The new shop was opened by East Renfrewshire’s Provost Alastair Carmichael. Also in attendance at the opening was Ken Macintosh, MSP for Eastwood.
Derek Brown, Cosgrove’s Supported Employment Manager said: “We are delighted with the way this new venture is going. We have been trialing the project for the past few months from a warehouse in Barrhead so it’s great that faire belle now has a base where customers can come in to browse, donate and purchase. Our students have been enjoying learning new skills and in the run up to the shop opening we had customers popping in every day in anticipation of our first day open.”
Staff from Slater Hogg’s Shawlands branch also attended the opening as they have chosen Cosgrove to be their nominated charity. At some point in August the staff will swap their business attire for painting overalls when they carry out their sponsored paint of faire belle’s shop interior.
The proceeds from the sale of all furniture and home accessories will remain within faire belle.
If you'd like to browse faire belle’s collection of beautifully up cycled furniture and home accessories, visit faire belle at 95 Kilmarnock Road, Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm.
If you have any items of furniture that you would like to donate to faire belle, please call Derek Brown on 0141 649 4000 who can arrange a suitable time for an uplift.
Similar to Slater Hogg, if your business would like to work with Cosgrove please contact Cosgrove’s Fundraising Executive, Nicola Walsh on 0141 620 2500.
Cosgrove is a charity that specialises in providing personalised support and care services for children and adults who have learning disabilities, autistic spectrum disorders, and mental health problems living in and around Glasgow and East Renfrewshire.
